Knock Property

Property search without the noise

A property marketplace connecting buyers, renters and agents. I designed the search, listing and enquiry experience for buyers, plus the listing-management side agents work in every day.

The problem

What was actually wrong

Property apps optimise for listing count, not for decisions. Buyers were saving dozens of properties and then losing track of why they saved them — and agents were fielding enquiries with no context attached.

The work

What I did, in order

  1. 01

Interviewed buyers and agents separately, then mapped both journeys on one timeline to find where they collide — almost always at the enquiry.

  2. 02

Designed a comparison view so saved properties can be judged side by side on the criteria that matter to that buyer, not a fixed list.

  3. 03

Rebuilt filters as a progressive set: three decisions on the first screen, everything else behind 'more filters', which cut abandonment in testing.

  4. 04

Gave every enquiry a structured context payload — which listing, which saved criteria, which questions — so agents open a conversation already informed.

  5. 05

Built a two-sided design system: the same tokens and components, tuned for a consumer app and a work tool.

Key decisions

The three choices that mattered most

Every project has a handful of decisions that shaped everything after them. These were this project's.

Map and list as one surface

A draggable sheet over the map instead of a tab switch. People keep their spatial context while scanning results — the single biggest usability win in testing.

Saved with a reason

Saving a property prompts a one-tap reason. Weeks later the shortlist still makes sense, and comparison becomes possible.

Agent tools that respect the day

The agent dashboard is built around today's enquiries and viewings, not an inbox — designed for someone checking it between appointments on a phone.

What was delivered

  • Dual-persona journey maps
  • Search & filter UX
  • Buyer app UI (iOS + Android)
  • Agent web dashboard
  • Shared design system
  • Usability test findings
